We love the Meet a Mom features on our site because it is a great way for us to share more about the people behind the small businesses we share. Today, we are meeting Shannon Christine De Vera, also known as Dr. De Vera at Champions Pediatric Dentistry. Let’s get to know more about her!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the North Houston area?
I was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana. We moved to Coppell, TX when I was in middle school and have been in Texas ever since! My husband and I moved to the North Houston area in 2018 and we have three children. My oldest is 9, and I have a 6 year-old and 3 year-old. And we are expecting a fourth this summer!
Congrats! That’s so exciting! What are some things around town that you enjoy as a family?
We enjoy all of the parks that we have in the Woodlands. We like to be outside as much as we can. We swim and bike as a family and make use of all of the walking/nature trails in the area.

We’d love to learn more about Champions Pediatric Dentistry now. Can you tell us a bit more about the practice?
We offer pediatric dental appointments that meet your child where they’re comfortable. Sometimes we start on mom or dad’s lap, sometimes we just use a normal toothbrush to start their first cleanings. We do a ton of dentistry without any “shots” and treat using a laser.
We love making our patients happy as well as their parents! Nothing thrills us more than hearing how excited the kids are to come back and see us again! Parents are welcome to be present alongside their child to be engaged in their child’s hygiene or treatment visit. We want their parents seeing how amazing their child does with their visits too! We enjoy making parents happy, kids happy, and each other happy.
We love that approach to dentistry so much and know so many others do too! Now, we have some fun questions:
- Favorite restaurant in North Houston: We love trying new places, but Japanese sushi/hibachi is always a crowd pleaser in our house! We usually go to Sakekawa in the Woodlands and recently have been enjoying Mimi Garden Dumpling House.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why, and how long would you stay? I would go for a month to SE Asia to visit my family! My brother, his wife, and his son live in Singapore and it is somewhere I want to take my children soon. My husband is Filipino and we also have a ton of family in the Philippines. We would love to visit with them and see the beautiful islands and experience the cuisine and culture of the Philippines.
- What is something interesting about yourself that others may not know about you? I am the middle of four brothers! My life has always been busy (AND LOUD) but so fun—much like a day in our office!
And finally some mom-focused questions…What’s the best mom advice you have ever been given (or your own advice to mamas out there)?
Don’t compare yourself to others! Social media especially is not reality. It is sometimes easy to feel like you’re doing the wrong things or never doing enough when you always see curated posts. Do your best for your children and spouse because that’s all that matters.
Our mission is to Give Moms the Gift of Time. What are your best time-saving tips/resources as a mom?
Plan ahead! I try to prep as much as I can for the next day the night before so early mornings can be quick. I have also given some of my children responsibilities to help make mornings faster for everyone.
