Meet a Mom: Amanda Birdwell of Busy Brainz | North Houston Moms

We are excited to introduce Amanda Birdwell of Busy Brainz! She is a good friend and a hardworking mama of 3 boys. Read more about her new business, her plans for the future, and some of her favorite things about North Houston!

Hi Amanda! Thanks for taking time to tell us about yourself. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the North Houston area?

I have lived in North Houston for most of my life. I moved away for school and work but once I found out I was pregnant with my first I knew I wanted to come home. This area is such a great place to raise kids!

Tell us about your family! How many kids do you have and how old are they?

My husband’s name is Ricky, and we have 3 boys: Henry (5) Teddy (3) and Charlie (1)

What are your favorite local things to do? (with kiddos or just for mom!)

There is just so much to do in this area.  We love going to all the splashpads, checking out the nature preserves, and meeting friends at all the beautiful parks.

Our mission is to Give Moms the Gift of Time — What are your best time-saving tips/resources as a mom?

I save time here and there by deciding what is actually important to me and my family and prioritize accordingly. It’s a silly example (and some people think I’m crazy) but I go to the laundromat every week and wash, dry and fold all the clothes in about an hour and a half. Doing “one load a day” just doesn’t work for me.

Where do you see your business in the next 5 years?

I would absolutely love to see my business grow and move to a more public facility. Our classes are held in my backyard classroom, which is fantastic for now, but I would love to see it grow.

What is your favorite restaurant in North Houston?

There are so many amazing restaurants in our area. My husband and love going to Tris for happy hour appetizers and Crust Pizza with the kids.

Do you have a favorite coffee place in North Houston?

I am obsessed with a new coffee and pastry place that opened up by me, Tosca! Best coffee and pastries ever!

Your business name is Busy Brainz, right? Can you tell us more?

Yes! We have been in business since March. We offer outdoor kids classes that incorporate singing, dancing, art, mindfulness, and play!

What is your passion behind opening?

I love kids and I love introducing kids to new was to make art and sensory play.

How is your business unique?

Our classes are exciting and engaging. We incorporate sensory play as well as mindfulness meditation into each class. We also gear our classes toward a wide age range from 18months-8years.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why, and how long would you stay?

I absolutely love traveling and love planning future vacations. Italy and Israel are at the very top of my list! In a perfect world I would be able to stay for a month or so to really take it all in.

As hard as it is to find the time, what’s something you do just for yourself?

I like to do watercolor when I have time (usually when everyone is asleep) and for a real treat going to a spa is the best!

What’s the best mom advice you have ever been given (or your own advice to mamas out there)?

My best advice is really evaluate what is overwhelming and stressing you out the most and make it easier. Just take one thing at a time and make it easier.

Follow Busy Brainz on Instagram or check out their website! Classes are updated often and there’s plenty of options for everyone!
