Getting your child to brush their teeth without a struggle can be fun with the right approach!
Here are some creative ways to make it enjoyable:
1. Dance Party
Turn toothbrushing into a mini dance party! Play their favorite song and let them dance while they brush.
Choose a two-minute song to make sure they brush long enough.
2. Fun Timer
Use a sand timer, a countdown clock, or a toothbrushing app with fun visuals.
Some electric toothbrushes have built-in timers with music or lights.
3. Sticker Chart & Rewards
Create a sticker chart where they earn a sticker every time they brush.
Offer a small reward (extra bedtime story, choosing a movie, etc.) after earning a certain number of stickers.

4. Let Them Pick Their Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Allow them to choose a toothbrush with their favorite character or a fun color.
Kid-friendly toothpaste flavors (bubblegum, strawberry, etc.) can make brushing more exciting.
5. Make It a Game
Pretend they’re brushing away “sugar bugs” or “cavity monsters.”
Use a mirror so they can see their teeth getting clean.
6. Brush Together
Set an example by brushing your teeth with them. Kids love to mimic adults!
7. Storytime or Role Play
Tell a fun story about a superhero who fights cavities.
Let their favorite stuffed animal “watch” or “help” with brushing.
The key is to make brushing feel like a fun daily ritual rather than a chore.
At Wheeler Pediatric Dentistry, children are their only patients. From video games to TVs over the dental chairs, they want their patients to enjoy their visit and have fun. The office is designed to allow parents to spend as much time with our doctors and staff as necessary to discuss concerns and get questions answered. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child in the treatment area to become participants in the experience. Dr. Jon is friendly, kind and great at what he does.
