Local, Up-and-Coming Artists at Big As Texas | North Houston Moms

You may have heard Big As Texas Music Festival is coming to Montgomery this May, but what you may not know is that in November, Dosey Doe held “The Big As Texas Throwdown” – an incredible battle of the bands competition for up-and-coming artists. For four nights, artists performed 25-minute sets with live voting by attendees, with two winners getting the opportunity to perform on stage at Big As Texas.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for local bands to not only showcase their talent on the legendary Dosey Doe Big Barn stage during the competition but they could also get the unprecedented opportunity to perform in front of a huge audience at the Big As Texas Music Festival. Help these guys advance their music careers,” shared Steve Said, owner of Dosey Doe and partner of Big As Texas.

Let’s meet the hometown acts that will be taking the stage next month.

Garrison Nunn grew up in the small town of Montgomery with music in his life from the beginning. Influenced by artists in a variety of genres, he’s found his unique sound in country music, but pays tribute to the music that has shaped him. You will love his music if you like Texas Country, Singer/Songwriter Country, and Red Dirt Country. After graduating from high school in Texas, Garrison packed his bags and headed to Nashville. While studying at Belmont University and working towards a doctorate degree in Pharmacy, he is also experiencing all the Nashville has to offer in the music world. He is ready to release his first ever EP, titles “Then and Now.”

Another local gracing the stage is Caleb Young, a product of small-town pride and tradition. This blue collar part of the world instilled a sense of humbleness, grit and authenticity that can undoubtedly be seen and heard through the lens of his music. For as long as he can remember, music has run through his veins. However, it wasn’t until 2015 that he began to feel confident enough to share his music with the world, and take his talents center stage. He attributes this start to a close friend whose songwriting, guitar playing, and production knowledge helped transform Young into the confident professional that he is today.

Enamored by the rugged tones of Southern Rock, but always with Country music close to his heart, Caleb merges beautiful simplicities, with unmistakable, raw energy. He effortlessly swings from romantic ballads to rebellious riffs, illuminating his personal stories in the process.

Through his lyricism and instrumentation, the sole goal has always been for his music to resonate with others. “If I had one word to describe my “why” when it comes to a song, it would be relatability. There are moments in life that become a time stamp on your story. And my aim, no matter the emotion, is to be that narration for my listener,” Young explains.

In addition to great local artists, headliners of the Festival include Thomas Rhett, Dierks Bentley and Billy Strings. Other acts include Colt Ford, Maddie & Tae, Dwight Yoakam, Tracy Byrd, Midland, Anne Wilson, Jamestown Revival and more! You can find daily line-ups below.

Big As Texas is more than just a music festival. Festival co-founder Trey Diller is passionate about bringing attention and awareness to the mental health and alarming suicide rates that are impacting Montgomery County, a place he himself calls home. Ten percent of net proceeds from each individual ticket sold will be donated to nonprofit organizations that promote suicide death prevention in both Montgomery County and across Texas.

Big As Texas is family-friendly, with more to offer than just music. Find out more here and we hope to see you out there next month!
