Summer reading season is here, and there are so many ways for North Houston kids to keep learning while earning fun rewards! While the Montgomery County Memorial Library System offers an incredible summer reading program, it’s not the only option available. From free books and pizza rewards to bookstore challenges and year-round incentives, families in The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, and Spring have plenty of opportunities to encourage a love of reading all summer long. We’ve rounded up the best summer reading programs in our area so you can find the perfect fit for your family and maybe even stack a few rewards along the way!

Montgomery County Memorial Library System Provides Free Events and Reading Rewards for all ages
Unearth a Story June one through July twenty-five Summer Reading Program. Dinosaur skull, books, digging tools, little blue dinosaur. Unearth A Story is this year’s Montgomery County Memorial Library System’s Summer Reading Program theme and there will be digging, dinosaurs and discovery for all ages. Children, preteens, teens, and adults may participate from June 1st through July 25th, 2026 in this program filled with a reading challenge and free events.
There are two parts to the free Summer Reading Program—a self-paced reading component and a variety of events. Educational and entertaining events are available at all seven MCMLS library locations across Montgomery County. Events are free and open to the public during the eight-week program. The reading challenge includes goals that are self-paced with rewards to foster literacy.
Children, teens and adults can choose to read by books or minutes. Reading to each other, listening to audiobooks, and reading articles, newspapers and e-books counts too. Participants may register on the Reader Zone app in May, but cannot begin reading or logging titles until June 1st. They may also choose to pick up a printed reading log at their local library instead of tracking on the Reader Zone app. Once reading goals are reached, participants can show their completion reading logs to their home location, and earn their reward for reading!
