Diana Franco Talavera moved from Venezuela to the U.S. when her daughter was 10 months old, and had to start over in a new country and new culture. She was an entrepreneur in Venezuela and knew she wanted something for herself again here. So, 4 months postpartum with her second child, post-Covid, and new to Texas, she took the leap to start Piel de Oro The Woodlands. She offers a healthy, natural alternative to sunbathing with immediate results you can show off any time of the year! Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the North Houston area?
I´m from Venezuela. I´ve been living in the USA with my family since September 2017. We lived in Orlando Florida for 3 years and then we moved to Texas in December 2020 because my husband got a job here at Walden Racquet Center as a Tennis Coach.
How many kiddos do you have and how old are they?
We have two beautiful kids. Ana Lucia (4yo) and Vicente Andrés (1yo)
What are your favorite local things to do? (with kiddos or just for mom!)
We are new in town so we do not know many local places yet, but we love to get together with friends having a BBQ and sing karaoke. Take the kids to the park.
As hard as it is to find the time, what’s something you do just for yourself?
Maybe will sound silly but my morning routine is sacred! Those 30 minutes are my “me time”! Have my coffee on my porch, do my prayers and be thankful for the day to come.
Well and have some Margaritas with friend too!!! hahah
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
That I am 5 years older than my husband 😉
What’s the best mom advice you have ever been given (or your own advice to mamas out there)?
There is no better mamma for your kids than you! With love and gratitude everything is possible.
Tell us about Piel de Oro! When did you begin this business and what services do you offer?
Piel de Oro® is a highly dynamic company created to enhance the personal image of its clients. The company was born in Venezuela in 2011 with the intention of offering a high-quality spray tanning service without any health risks. We aim to become the best alternative to avoid the side effects of sun exposure or UVA rays in frequent users of tanning booths. Piel de Oro has been consolidating its international expansion with presence in the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, and now in Europe, with its recent opening in Spain.
So through the franchise system and a profitable model, Piel de Oro® represented a great opportunity for me to start my own business. In February 2021 I decided to open the first Piel de Oro in Texas. Now Piel de Oro has 2 more new locations in Katy and North Dallas.
We specialize in providing spray tanning services. We offer a healthy, natural alternative to sunbathing with immediate results so you can show off, at any time of the year, the skin tone you have always wanted. We are located in Conroe but we serve The Woodlands, Spring and Montgomery.

What was the inspiration behind opening your own spray tan business?
A long story short…. I was 4 months Post-partum, post pandemic and recently moved to Texas yet my entrepreneurial spirit was in the search for a business, I didn’t know what but I wanted to do something that I really love and enjoy. I´ve known Mariela (the franchise owner) for more than 20 years, and I was her client too so when we moved to Texas I knew that they didn’t have any location here. So when I asked her about opening a location here she was so happy and excited. In that moment I felt her energy and knew that Piel de Oro was the business that I was looking for.
What do you think sets your business apart from other spray tan businesses out there?
The company’s mission is to provide happiness to those who live the tanning experience at a Piel de Oro® location. From the moment you contact us to the post appointment we´ll do our best to make you feel fully satisfy with our services.

What did you do before starting Piel de Oro?
Back in Venezuela I owned a Waxing Spa and had my own property management company. In 2017 for all political and social problems that Venezuela is going through we had to shut everything down and moved to USA leaving behind family, friends and businesses. So we had to start over, new country, new culture and new job. My daughter was only 10 month when we got to the US so we decided that was better for her to stay at home with me instead of going to a daycare. So I became a Full Time Mom until Piel de Oro.
What has been the most rewarding thing about owning your own business?
The most rewarding thing for me is the feeling of being productive again by doing something that I love and enjoy.
How do you balance owning your business and being a mama?
I think the keys of my balance are to be present and that it´s ok to be helped.
I won’t deny it is hard!! And definitely, there are many versions of myself; the wife, the mama, the woman running a business… I always try to be fully present in each version; but I´m sure anything of this could be possible without my husband´s help and support; he´s my anchor and my refuge.
What are your future plans and dreams for Piel De Oro? Any deals, sales, or events North Houston Mom can be on the lookout for?
Right now I work mostly at my house. My future plan for Piel de Oro is to open a real physical location where everyone could walk-in.
